Pricing
Billed per character,
not per token.
Attach as many operations as you want at no extra cost. You are billed only for the characters you send in and the characters handed back.
Your first 1M characters each month are free, and the rate falls 20% with every doubling after that. The calculator below shows your cost before you spend anything.
One rate. It falls as you grow.

The rule, drawn.
1M free
The rate falls continuously with volume: free below 1M characters a month, then down 20% per doubling, no floor. Volume counts what you send in plus what the last transform returns; detect and extract add nothing.
Provided models at tokens + 5%
Name a provided model and Chersus calls it: no provider account or key needed. Its provider is Chersus's subprocessor, not yours, under one contract and one DPA.
Provided-model tokens bill at provider cost plus 5%, as a separate line from your character charge. Bring your own key instead, and your provider bills you directly.

Edge cases, answered.
How do detect and extract affect my bill?
A detect returns a verdict and an extract returns a value, not text, so running one or eight adds nothing to the bill. Only text handed back is billed: a transform's rewrite or a relayed model's answer.
What counts as a billed character?
Every character you send in, whitespace included, plus every character handed back: the last transform's rewrite, or with relay the model's answer. A redaction that takes 61 characters and returns 53 bills 114; a toxicity check of the same text bills 61.
What happens when a run fails?
A failing operation fails the run, and nothing is handed back. A failed run bills nothing, and neither does a rejected request.
What does a blocked request cost?
The detects and extracts ran on your input, so the input is billed and nothing else. Nothing derived from the text is handed back.
When is my rate fixed?
At month end, from the characters that passed through over the month, in and out together, on the curve above. So the estimate you see during the month can only go down as your volume rises. The operations you attach never move it.
Do the 1M free characters reset?
Yes, with each monthly billing period; they do not accumulate.
Is relay extra?
No: a relay run bills the characters you send plus the characters of the answer that comes back, at your normal rate, detect and extract free. The one line outside the curve is a provided model's tokens, at provider cost plus 5%, described in the section above.
Does relay cost more than calling my model myself?
Relay bills what you send plus the answer handed back, once. When you call the model yourself, the first run bills what you send plus the tokenized text handed back. A check on the answer bills the answer's characters in, because detects hand nothing back. Relay adds nothing on top.
Do you offer enterprise contracts?
Yes, on the same curve. Contracts add a 12-month commitment, an SLA, invoicing terms, and a fixed monthly amount if you want one. Send your monthly volume to hello@chersus.com.
