Operations
Every detect, extract and transform you can put in a workflow, plus relay: what each one returns, its options, and an example.
Last updated ·Also as Markdown:this pagellms.txt
Every operation has a full name, kind.subject.action, and goes in the list named after its kind by its short name, so detect.pii.entities is pii.entities in detect. Open a row for its request, its response, its options, the languages it covers and its published figure where there is one, and read workflows to see how to combine them.
Detect 7
A detect reads the text and returns a verdict and a score. It never changes the text, and a detect with block can stop the run.

}Run detect.pii.entities on what a user sent and on what a model produced, before an answer reaches the person who asked. A model with private context in its prompt can quote it back. A flag means the text carries personal data, and labels names the types found.
The PII transforms use the same detector. List transform.pii.redact or transform.pii.tokenize in the same workflow to take the values out and still get the text back. A transform next to this detect uses what it found and does not search again.

}extract.content.topics names what a text is about, from a fixed set of 36 topics. It returns more than one when the text covers several. Use it to route tickets and feeds. extract.content.topics:travel in a transform’s when runs that transform for travel only.
The set is fixed, so the operation does not take your own labels. You can use topics in when, but you cannot route on them.

Transform 3
A transform rewrites the text and hands it to the next step. Transforms run in the order you list them.
curl -X POST https://api.chersus.com/v1/run \
-H "Authorization: Bearer chrs_live_YOUR_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \

}Use transform.pii.redact before text leaves your system: support tickets, log lines,
LLM prompts, or anything you forward to a third party. The operation replaces names,
email addresses, phone numbers, and account-like strings with a placeholder, so
downstream tools still see consistent sentence structure.
The operation takes two options: types (default ["person", "email", "phone", "account"]) and mask (default "[REDACTED]"). Redaction is one-way. When you need
the original values back later, use transform.pii.tokenize instead; it returns
reversible tokens.

}Tokenize rather than redact when processing must continue on the data - an LLM call - and the values must come back afterwards. Each token is the type plus a hash of the value, like <PERSON_eb7805d77a13> or <EMAIL_33b537052b41>, and the same value gets the same token in every run on your account. The map comes back in the response as tokens.
The map holds real values. Store it with the care the raw text needed, and keep the tokenized history rather than the raw one. Chersus keeps no copy of the map, and the audit trace never includes it. Send an X-Session-Key to keep one conversation’s tokens apart from the others. Chersus keeps no copy of that key either. See the token map for the full pattern.

}transform.secrets.redact removes credentials from text before the text reaches a model, a log or a ticket. It is the redact action on the same detector as detect.secrets.credentials.
It is one-way. There is no tokenize for secrets on purpose, because a secret should never come back. The detector is interim while we build a dedicated secrets model. It has no published figures and does not replace a secret scanner in your repositories.
Chain it after transform.pii.tokenize in one workflow when a prompt may carry both people and keys.

}Relay is a step in a workflow or a policy, not an operation you call on its own. The detects, extracts and transforms run first, Chersus forwards the cleaned prompt to the model named in relay, runs the answer checks on what it said, rehydrates it, and one response carries the result. With a tokenize in the workflow, the model sees placeholders instead of the personal data it found.
It returns the rehydrated answer in output, a relay object with the provider, model, and duration, the detects and transforms of the run, and the detects on the answer in relay.detect. Billing is characters in plus characters out at your normal rate: relay adds nothing, detect and extract stay free, and provided models add provider cost plus 5% as a separate line. Relay adds our own time on top of the model’s, and the audit trace shows both. See the relay guide and the gateway guide for the full request and response shapes.
